Why does your hourly forecast differ from future radar?

  • Updated

Our Future Radar visualizes where precipitation is expected to move in the next 6 hours when atmospheric conditions aren’t expected to change much. It works great with large weather systems; however, the limitation of this tool is showing future precipitation when conditions are changing rapidly (e.g. thunderstorms). Our hourly forecasts do take radar as one of the inputs, but also take input from weather models to account for any new storm development or dissipation, and input from our team of meteorologists to account for weather scenarios that the radar or model cannot resolve.
